1970 – The founder of Burl Oaks Golf Club, Russ Wenkstern, began construction of the course as a nine-hole semi-private course.
1973 – Nine additional holes were added.
1979 – Plans were formulated by members to purchase the property and make Burl Oaks into a member-owned private golf club.
1988 – Four holes were redesigned, a new driving range was built, several bunkers were added, water hazards were enlarged, and #2 & #10 greens were increased in size.
1991 – The members built a new $1.2 million Clubhouse overlooking the golf course. The facilities include a member's grill and bar, golf merchandise shop, spacious locker rooms, and a large banquet room with a seating capacity for 160 guests.
1993 – The maintenance facility was built to provide ample working space for the Grounds Crew and to house the course equipment.
1997 – The driving range and practice facility were redesigned. Tee areas were greatly expanded and five target greens, two fairway bunkers, and a chipping area were added.
1999 and 2000 – The Club took on a "Master Plan" for the golf course. At nearly $900,000, Burl Oaks redesigned nine of it's golf holes by adding bunkers, enlarging six greens, adding and expanding tee boxes, creating better drainage, and beautifying the golf course by bringing more water into play.
2004 – Two permanent restrooms were built on the course complete with running water, electricity, and septic systems. The putting green was expanded and new shrubbery was planted to provide a natural screen from the driveway.
2005 - The irrigation pond near the eighteenth fairway was dredged and enlarged to provide increased storage capacity of the Club's irrigation reservoir and a new pumping station was built.
2006 - The range tee was expanded by 22,000 square feet, thus, providing a total hitting area of 43,000 square feet. At the same time a practice chipping green, sand bunker, bent grass fairway, and a blue grass rough area were installed at the south end of the practice area. With these additions and changes, Burl Oaks has one of the finest driving ranges and short game facilities in the Twin Cities.
2011 - The greens on both holes 8 and 10 were re-done. The fairway on 8 was also re-done.
2015 - A major bunker renovation project was completed. We are now enjoying the dividends!
Year after year, Burl Oaks has continued to improve the golf course and facilities of our Club. We are dedicated to providing a quality golf experience for our members and guests at a very reasonable price.
